Baltic Winner 2003

Baltic Winner 2003

  Tallinn (EST) 23.8.

Our last show trip to abroad to date was made on August 2003. In Tallinn, Estonia, was held "Baltic Winner 2003" International dog show. Me and my friend Laura, who had been with me in Narvik, Norway, headed there with lots of other Finns. We went there by ship, Super Seacat.

On the way there

Friday 22.8. to Saturday 23.8.

We left from Joensuu on Friday. We drove to our relative's summer cottage near Lahti, where we stayed the night.

VERY early on Saturday morning we drove to Helsinki, where the ship embarked. My brother met us in Helsinki and he drove us to the port.

The ship left Helsinki at 8 AM and arrived in Tallinn at 9.40 AM. We took a cab with another Finnish dog owner, who was also going to the show. The driver gave us his calling card so when we were leaving we could call him to fetch us.

The Dog show 23.8.

The weather was warm, even though it rained a bit at times. The show was held at Kalev Staadion. After we had let ourselves in we searched where our rings were and settled in.

There were 4 SVs from Finland, 2 dogs, Jonni and already an INT and EST CH Fennican Sorsetti Sulo, and 2 bitches, INT & EST CH Fennican Caunis Capri and FIN CH Fennican Espe Espaniola. The judge was from Finland, Matti Tuominen, who had judged Jonni twice before, so I knew him.

The rings

Laura and Riki went to their ring first. Riki was in Champion class with another male, a Swedish import. Riki got EXCELLENT but was placed second, so he did not get CAC or the title "Baltic Winner 2003". Riki's final result was BD-2.

Jonni and I were the first to go to SV ring. Jonni was in Open class and Fennican Sorsetti Sulo in Champion class. Jonni got EXCELLENT and we waited until the judge had judged Sorsetti Sulo. Then Jonni and Fennican Sorsetti Sulo competed for BD and the "Winner" title. Fennican Sorsetti Sulo was BD-1 and "Baltic Winner 2003" . Jonni was BD-2 but got the CAC and became EST CH. Jonni also got the CACIB, because the winner was already an INT CH and could not receive it. So we had a good day even though he did not win.

Fennican Caunis Capri was BB-1 and got the title. Fennican Espe Espaniola got CAC and CACIB, for the same reason as Jonni did. BOB was Fennican Sorsetti Sulo and Fennican Caunis Capri was BOS.
We had a lot a time before the ship was to sail but we decided to leave and go to the port. We wanted to somewhere to have something to eat and maybe do some shopping...

waiting...

Laura and Riki

We had thought of walking to the harbour because it was not far away and we had time. Soon we found out how difficult it was to travel with the dogs and our other gear so we decided to call the same taxi driver that had brougth us here. We had still plenty of money left so we could go by Taxi and still have money for shopping and food.

We called to the driver but had to wait a while before he arrived and took us to the harbour.

The dogs were in the same crate and they both were a "bit" fed up of the situation. Both wanted to have more room around them! It was a bit crowded in the crate!

Waiting for the Taxi

Waiting for the ship

After we got to the harbour we left our luggage there in storage and took our dogs with us and headed to the shopping mall that was near. There we found a hamburger bar and had something to eat. Laura went shopping to a flee market that was also in the area.

After shopping we went back to the harbour and fetched our stuff and put the dogs back to their crate. They both were VERY bored with the situation at that time!

more waiting...

Home at last!

Waiting for the ship seemed to take ages! But soon enough we were back at the ship and were heading back home!
It was not long until we arrived at Helsinki and my brother was there to pick us up. We left him to my uncle's place (he lives in Helsinki and owns the cottage we stayed in) and we drove back to the cottage we had stayed the previous night.
It was already dark when we arrived at the cottage. We were all tired and went straigth to bed! We slept till late in the morning and after eating breakfast and taking the dogs to their morning walk we cleaned up the cottage and headed back home to Joensuu!

   The diploma and the rosette

We were back home on Sunday evening.
Jonni got his Championship title confirmed on 29th of September.
To get the Diploma and rosette from Estonia I had to pay extra. I got them on 11th of November, so that took a while...
The trip to Estonia was fast when done with Super Seacat so maybe I could go over there again...
